SICK ALCOHOL AND BEVERAGES

“Drinking is a way of ending the day”. Unending the pressure of different conditions we have, men have at all times, and in all countries, called in some physical aid to their consolations- wine, beer, cocktails and a lot of different alcoholic beverages. A single shot for a temporary solution that could make them realize they are fully alive. Well, consumed in moderation, alcohol can have positive effects on cholesterol and blood sugar. But those rewards are quickly reversed if you overindulge.

“One of the most consistent findings in recent nutrition research is that moderate alcohol consumption can improve health and lead to a longer life,” says Eric Rimm, Sc.D., associate professor of epidemiology and nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Moderate drinkers tend to have better health and live longer than those who are either abstainers or heavy drinkers. In addition to having fewer heart attacks and strokes, moderate consumers of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine and distilled spirits or liquor) are generally less likely to suffer strokes, diabetes, arthritis, enlarged prostate, dementia (including Alzheimer's disease), and several major cancers.

Long-term alcohol abuse can cause a number of physical symptoms, including :

- cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, epilepsy, polyneuropathy, alcoholic dementia, heart disease, nutritional deficiencies, peptic ulcers and sexual dysfunction, and can eventually be fatal.

Alcoholism can have adverse effects on mental health, causing psychiatric disorders and increasing the risk of suicide. A depressed mood is a common symptom.

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines binge drinking as the amount of alcohol leading to a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08, which, for most adults, would be reached by consuming five drinks for men or four for women over a 2-hour period.

According to the NIAAA, men may be at risk for alcohol-related problems if their alcohol consumption exceeds 14 standard drinks per week or 4 drinks per day, and women may be at risk if they have more than 7 standard drinks per week or 3 drinks per day. It defines a standard drink as one 12-ounce bottle of beer, one 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits.

Wine can be a part of your healthy lifestyle !

According to Eric Rimm, Red wine also contains Resveratrol, a naturally occurring, powerful polyphenol (plant-derived) compound with some significant antioxidant properties.  Red wine offers more antioxidants due to the prolonged exposure to the skins and seeds during fermentation.

All of us can use a good break once in a while. But understand that taking the time to find simple ways to relieve yourself from stress and depression is not always drinking a bottle of any alcoholic beverages, two or three just on the weekends. If you're constantly stressed you've got yourself into a bad place. Probably through a few simple bad habits. Be aware that you can't make good decisions from bad places. You need to create some 'space and time' for you to contemplate how to bring your life back into a healthier balance. Aim to notice more of the things that are going right, if you are going to a happy place, be it visualizing a beach scene, family gathering that could balance your perspective on what happens in your life. Drinking alcoholic beverages should not be a habit. Know your limits. If you haven’t had a drink all week, it doesn’t mean you have to drink plenty tonight. :)
