HOME REMEDIES

Are you suffering from fiery fever? Or maybe you are irritated with your sore throat? What about uncomfortable stomach problems? Are you tired or really feeling sick to go to the pharmacy and buy your medicines? Well, remedies for your illnesses are just one step away from you. Natural home remedies are good for simple sicknesses. You do not have to always depend on synthetic chemical products to cure your illnesses as excessive dependence may damage other body organs like liver. Aside from proven safe, natural home remedies are affordable and easy to prepare. So why not try some? The following are some of home remedies you can try to cure your illnesses.

1. Tea as the best remedy for fever

Brew a cup of yarrow tea. This herb opens your pores and triggers the sweating that is said to move a fever toward its end. Steep a tablespoon of herb in a cup of freshly boiled water for 10 minutes. Let cool. Drink a cup or two until you start to sweat.

Another herb, elderflower, also helps you sweat. And it happens to be good for other problems associated with flu and colds, like overproduction of mucus. To make elderflower tea, mix two teaspoons of the herb in a cup of boiled water and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain out the elderflower. Drink three times a day as long as the fever continues.

Drink a cup of hot ginger tea, which also induces sweating. To make the tea, steep a half-teaspoon minced gingerroot in 1 cup just-boiled water. Strain, then drink.

2. Honey, onion and garlic syrup for Sore Throat

The mixture:
Combine a half-cup of honey and a half-cup of water. Add in one whole chopped onion and one chopped clove of garlic. Add a dash of sage, thyme or oregano and allow to steep overnight at room temperature. Strain and use the liquid as a cough syrup. Store in your refrigerator.

Why it works:
Honey, onion and garlic are all naturally antimicrobial, says Dr. Solomonian. “Honey also acts as a demulcent, meaning it relaxes the cough reflex and soothes the throat.” Not cooking the mixture helps preserve the full antimicrobial properties of the onions and garlic, which lose some of their potency when heated. Finally, herbs like sage, thyme or oregano add even more antimicrobial benefits.

Tip:
If you can’t wait overnight for your syrup to steep, simmer the mixture for five to 10 minutes until the onions soften. Although you’ll lose some antimicrobial properties, you will get some relief before heading to bed.
